Bubblegum Trading Cards

Bought a lot of these fine cards at Mr. White's store when it was at the corner of the next block from our house. Probably spent some of the silver dollars Charles Barham would give for a perfect quarter of Sunday School attendance on them.

"Jesus Music" Albums

From "folk rock" to real rock: the evolution of a genre.

turns out we were all right....

steppin stone...

i remember this one with stepping stone...
for some reason thinking we had the raiders single and that's why we did not get the monkees version on 45...

Some Monkees Records We Did Own

This single must have come out in advance of the album "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones, Ltd." That's the only explanation I can think of for having this along with the LP.

The album above was a birthday present from Ervin. I remember him asking what I wanted, me telling him, and then actually getting it.

"Headquarters," and "Pisces, Aquarius, et al" are cut for cut the two best albums The Monkees made.

A Record We Didn't Own

Sure, we had the song, but not the single. The only reason I can think of is that we must have already owned the album. This was the biggest present for girls on gift exchange day in 8th grade. Of course, this was back when Christmas was celebrated in schools.

3 albums,,,

herb alpert's album original release date april of 1965...that one i was not sure of...rick's birthday being in april ...that seems more likely
revolver released in august of 1966 and more of the monkees being january of 1967 i believe i'm right on that one...i also have vague memories of rain and cold when the front room door opened...
that is what makes this blog cool....different views of the same memories....

The First Beatles Album

...at least, the first one released in the US, and the first one we owned. It was bought at the G.I. 1200 on, I think, Bessemer Ave. (The Big G.I., not like the Little G.I. at the Florida St. Shopping Center.) This album had extensive notes on the back cover consisting of song titles and the names of The Beatles.

Columbia Record Club Part 2

This was the rest of the batch. I think I now have most of the best songs from these albums on CD.

Columbia Record Club Part 1

I think it was 5 albums for a penny, or a nickel, or a dime. Anyway, these are the Dave Clark Five albums that were part of a batch.

Album Covers Redux

I'm loathe to correct anyone's memory with mine being as unreliable as it is, but I believe the two albums pictured here were the ones bought around the same time as Revolver. The Herb Alpert in the post below was released in 1965, Revolver in 1966, and More of the Monkees in 1967. The Hendrix and Cream compilations were released in 1968 and 1969 respectively. This makes me believe that these two were likely the ones bought with The Beatles album. They were all heavier rock, and we were of an age where we thought we were outgrowing The Monkees brand of pop-rock. Herb Alpert's music was also pretty much on the back burner by the time Revolver was released.
